Hair Replacement Side Effects and Risks

Obviously anytime that you are taking a new drug you should be aware of the possible risks and side effects of that drug. This is a very important concern because no matter how healthy you are every drug is different and every person is different so there is no way of truly knowing how a drug is going to effect you.

The following is a guide to some of the things that you should look for when you take the drug Finasteride. Finasteride is the newest market drug to treat hair loss and it often goes by the brand name Propecia or Proscar.

Originally the drug was developed for men with heart problems but when patients taking the drug began to report that their hair loss slowed down while taking it, the drug was re-tested, reformulated then resold as a hair replacement drug.

The first rule of taking Finasteride is that it should never be taken by a pregnant woman, and probably should not be taken by women at all. The drug has some hormonal effects and if pregnant women take the drag it is been known to severely damage male babies.

In fact, pregnant women should not even handle the drug because the active chemical agent could seep through the hand and through osmosis enter the blood stream. As for men, the consequences are far less severe but should be monitored closely nonetheless.

If you are taking finasteride and you experience an allergic reaction you should stop taking the drug immediately and seek medical attention. Symptoms of an allergic reaction range from the following:

  • Difficulty breathing
  • Closing of throat
  • Swelling of lips
  • Swelling of tongue
  • Swelling of face
  • Hives

There are also some less serious side effects that you should watch out for. These are non life threatening but they could threaten your quality of life more than being bald ever would have.

  • Decreased libido
  • Decreased volume of ejaculate
  • Impotence
  • Breast tenderness

These side effects occur in a very small percentage of users but they do occur.
