Hair Replacement Costs
As you well know hair replacement options come in many different forms. These
can range from non-surgical hair replacement techniques like hair systems, laser
hair replacement and hair replacement pills.
Then there is the surgical method of hair replacement. This is usually in the
form of hair grafts or implants.
Whichever one of these you think is the best for you must be aware that none
of them are a simple one-time fee (not even hair systems). All of these require
a life long commitment and your costs will continue for the rest of your life,
or however long you decide that having some semblance of hair is important for
you.
Propecia
This little pill has been heralded as a miracle in the hair replacement industry.
Propecia claims that it will all 90% of men to keep all of the hair that they
have and that 66% of men grow some of their hair back after treatment.
A monthly dose of Propecia usually costs around $100, and that is at one pill
per day. Spread over the course of a year this is $1,200.
But now that the five year moratorium on its chemical patent has been lifted
there are new makers of generic versions of the drug. The most popular today
is called Finpecia. This drug has the same dose, one pill a day, but it costs
one third of the price. Generally there is no difference between the two pills.
Hair Systems
Also known as hairpieces or toupees. These techniques have come a long way
and they are now specially crafted with real human hair to custom suit the needs
of the owner. However, this switch from retail, to custom manufacturing as also
raised the cost to some degree.
The average hair system now goes for around $500. This is a pretty good price,
but you have to keep in mind that hair systems do not last forever and you will
have to replace them eventually.
Hair Transplants
The average cost of 500 transplants is around $3,000. This is for a higher
quality transplant. Do not be fooled by cheaper options because you'll end up
looking like a Barbie dill head.
