Facial Implants

There are very few men who are born with naturally chiseled jaws or women who are born with high prominent cheekbones, in fact, there are many people who are extremely uncomfortable with their facial features and feel that they need something done to bring balance to the look or their faces. These people often consider facial implants.

Facial implants are often used on the chin, cheeks and jaw to bring features into proportion and give a lift to people whose faces look aged, tired or sunken.

Usually these implants are made from a hard, solid silicone material and are made with depressions in them so that they can fit exactly over the anatomic structure of the face that they are enhancing. Some surgeons will use screws to hold the implants in place, but more often the implants are designed so that they can stay snugly in place without being fastened.

Before deciding to have facial surgery it is important to find a plastic surgeon that you feel you can trust. You may need to spend some time shopping around but this way you will be able to find someone who has a number of years of experience doing the type of surgery that you are interested in, who knows exactly the result you are looking for and puts you at ease during your consultations.

Before facial surgery you will likely go in for an initial consultation and at least one preoperative appointment. During these appointments it is absolutely essential that you make sure that you and your surgeon are on the same page when it comes to the type of result that you are expecting. You should keep in mind that although your facial implant will likely enhance your appearance and balance out your features there are no guarantees when it comes to cosmetic surgery.

After surgery you should be prepared for bruising, swelling and discomfort. Sometimes the insertion of facial implants will result in scarring, but typically scars are hidden in places where they are not noticeable like inside the mouth or underneath the chin.

If you decide to have facial implants make sure you allow yourself an ample amount of time to heal. Healing may take a few weeks so have patience. Once you have healed and become accustomed to your new look you will have years to revel in your transformation.
