Side Effects and Risks
Although complications are rare there are risks with every type of major surgery
including having facial implants.
People who are considering having facial implant surgery must ensure that they
are completely aware of all side effects and risks before they make a decision
to have surgery.
Each person who considers facial implant surgery should come to terms with
the fact that there is a chance that their surgery may not yield the exact result
that they were after. It is also essential for people considering these types
of procedures to remember that although the surgery will likely enhance their
appearance it won't solve all of their problems. Some people go into surgery
with unrealistic expectations and these people are at risk of becoming severely
depressed when things don't go exactly how they had planned.
When it comes to the side effects of facial implant surgery there are a few
things that people coming out of surgery can count on. If general anesthetic
is used most patients normally wake up quite groggy and tired after surgery.
Some people feel nauseous or feel like they have a sore throat when they wake
up from sedation. After surgery patients are also almost always sore, swollen
and bruised. These side effects often last three or four days.
Scarring is also a typical side effect of facial implant surgery. All patients
who consider this type of surgery should come to terms with the fact that they
might have permanent scarring even though most of the time scars are positioned
so that they are not noticeable.
The risks of facial implant surgery can range anywhere from prolonged discomfort
to death. Very few people have ever died during this type of surgery, but when
there is general anesthesia involved there are always risks.
Other risks of facial implant surgery include hematomas, nerve damage, numbness
and loss of feeling, infection and facial asymmetry. Another risk of this surgery
is that facial implants may shift and when this occurs usually the patient will
need to go into surgery again to have the problem corrected.
Because facial implant surgery has become more common with each passing year
there is little chance that people who undergo this type of surgery will experience
any adverse effects. With that said, each person considering any type of plastic
surgery must make sure that they are aware of the risks and side effects that
might be associated with the procedure that they undergo so that if they notice
anything out of the ordinary after surgery, they will immediately address the
problem.
