Jaw Implants

Jaw implants are often used to add symmetry and structure to the face. Jaw implants for men are especially popular because many men are looking to enhance their features with the strong look of a chiseled jaw-line.

Jaw implants can add balance to facial features and allow people who do not naturally have a defined jaw-line to achieve a more proportionate look.

If you are considering jaw implants, before you go for a consultation with a surgeon you should consider what sort of result you are looking for. Once you have figured out the look that you are after you can go to a plastic surgeon to see if the result you are after will suit your facial structure.

During your initial consultation most plastic surgeons will evaluate the width, vertical height and symmetry of your face in order to determine the sort of result that will best suit your face.

Before your surgery you will likely have a preoperative appointment so make sure that your surgeon addresses all of your questions and concerns at this time. Once all of your questions are answered you will be able to feel must more calm and confident on the day of your surgery.

When it comes to jaw implants the actual surgery typically takes between one and two hours. During surgery incisions are usually made inside the mouth on either side of the inside of the lower lip. The implants are inserted through these incisions.

Usually a general anesthetic is used during jaw implant surgery so afterwards most patients wake up feeling groggy and out of it. Many people experience swelling, numbness and bruising after having jaw implants and most also have trouble chewing, smiling and talking for a few days after surgery.

If you decide to have jaw implants it's a good idea to take at least a week off work to give yourself time to recover.

Keep in mind that although complications are rare there are risks attached to this type of surgery. Sometimes patients experience numbness, nerve irritation, infection or notice an asymmetry in their jaw-line after surgery due to an implant having shifted.

After having jaw implants it might take a while to get used to your new and improved look, but once the swelling subsides you will likely feel more confident and self-assured than ever before.
