Dermabrasion Recovery
Skin blemishes left behind from acne, accidents, and genetic defects can diminish
your relations and self-confidence. These imperfections can mask the real you
and leave you dissatisfied with constant worries and concerns. For people with
these problems, a dermabrasion or microdermabrasion procedure can rejuvenate
their look with the promise of smooth new skin.
A typical dermabrasion procedure requires that motorized scraping or a high-speed
particle spray remove the outer layers of skin. Usually, only the outer layers
of skin are exfoliated. The procedure is short and can be finished in an hour.
Immediately after the procedure the skin is sensitive and swollen. Any activity
requiring cheek movements or facial movements may be painful. Things like eating
and talking are problematic due to tingling, burning, itching, and pain. These
side effects in the initial recovery period can be treated with prescription
drugs and should subside in a few days.
As the skin heals, a scab layer will form over the treated area. The scabs
will eventually fall off (you shouldn't pick at scabs, just like with regular
wounds), revealing a new layer of soft, pink, and tighter skin. During this
phase of skin growth patients experience itchiness and irritation, but these
symptoms can be treated with topical ointments and creams.
Men are advised not to shave for a while, and only with electric razors at
first. The doctor's instructions will be more detailed and specific to your
unique needs.
During recovery it's important to monitor the wound to make sure that it is
not becoming infected or abnormally scarred. Problematic symptoms like red,
raised, or itchy skin could indicate improper healing. The surgeon should be
notified immediately upon discovery of any healing problems.
The timeframe for recovery is several weeks. During this time the skin will
be swollen, sensitive, and pink. Most dermabrasion patients don't go back to
work for several weeks. Active sports that could damage your face should not
be pursued for at least two months. The worst damage can occur from the sun,
so patients should avoid excessive sun exposure.
The final results of a dermabrasion or microdermabrasion procedure can take
months to show. Most swelling and pinkness
Refinishing treatments can offer dramatic improvements in the surface of your
skin, but it will take some time before you see the final results. In three
months the skin should be re-pigmented and back to normal without obvious signs
of the operation.
