Cost of Dermabrasion
More than 65% of people who undergo cosmetic surgery today have family incomes
under $50,000. This is because plastic surgery is more affortable than it used
to be when it was only performed on the richa and famous. It's true that procedure
fees are still high but the overall costs have decreased. This is partly because
many procedures that used to be performed in the hospital are done in the doctor's
office. Also, plastic surgery has undergone many technological advances in the
past few years.
With dermobrasion - as with most plastic surgery procedures -- it's important
to research all your payment options before commiting to the procedure. You
should also have a good understanding of what is available out there, in terms
of financing, before you decide not to have the procedure.
Most surgeons will ask you to pay in full before going ahead with the dermabrasion
procedure. However there are some doctors who offer their patients different
payment options. For example, some offices may require deposit at the time of
scheduling and balance due one week prior to the operation. It is possible that
they will also have a cancellation penalty, if they have to schedule surgery
centre or anesthesiologists.
The cost of dermabrasion procedure is an important ingredient in the decision-making
process. In most cases, the cost of procedures varies from doctor to doctor
and can be influenced by geographical location. The national average of 1999
surgeon fees for dermabrasion was $1,383 (Source: The American Society of Aesthetic
Plastic Surgery).
Regional averages:
- New England states: $1,522;
- Middle Atlantic states: $1,576;
- North central states: $1,399;
- South central states: $1,240;
- Mountain/Pacific states: $1,249.
These fees do not include anesthesia, operating room facility, hospital stay
and other related expenses which can add up to anywhere between $1200 to $4000.
In most cases the approximate fee for a dermabrasion is between $2,000.00
and $3,000.00, but you can discuss with your physician an individual fee. The
cost for full face dermabrasion is about $4,000. If you have acne scars and
want only your cheeks treated, expect to pay about $3,000. If you want only
your lips treated, expect to pay about $1,500.
Additionally if you're having dermabrasion done to remove scarring or precancerous
skin growths, your insurance may cover the cost.
