Eye Lift Procedure

Length

The length depends on the type of surgery and the amount of any extra procedures being done such as laser wrinkle removal or eyebrow lift (these can all be done in one setting).

What happens?

When you first visit the surgeon, he or she will discuss the surgery and the expected results of the surgery with you. You may be asked to look in a mirror and show where or what you would like to improve in appearance. Afterwards the surgeon will evaluate your facial features to determine if surgery can help the problems that you want corrected. Basically, the amount and type of surgery done will depend on a lot of factors such as your personal goals, family history and other factors.

Next you and the surgeon will discuss your motives for and expectations of the surgery as well and the surgeon will have to make sure that you have realistic expectations. In most cases cosmetic eyelid surgery can improve appearance but doesn't alter it very dramatically.

Additionally, eyelid surgery cannot correct some blemishes, such as skin discoloration, fullness of cheeks and deep eyelid creases that should and can be - in most cases - corrected through other methods. The eye lift will improve a lot of conditions but won't remove wrinkles on the outer edges of the eyelids. The complete effect of the surgery may not be apparent for almost a year but you will be able to notice some changes within the first two weeks. Location

Majority of eye lift patients are operated on in an out patient surgical facility or may have surgery as an outpatient at a hospital. This depends on your own preference as well as your health. In most cases sedating as well as anesthetic agents are used during the procedure to keep the patient comfortable. For example, local anesthesia, combined with a sedative allows the patient to remain awake but relaxed.
