What Are Camouflage Cosmetics?
The first thing you need to know about camouflage cosmetics is that there is
nothing militant about them.
They are not designed to help you blend in with foliage or tall, swamp grasses,
they are designed to help you look and feel great while you are in the process
of healing after plastic surgery.
Although you may feel ready to get back to your regular routine a week after
plastic surgery, often it can take weeks and even months before swelling, bruising
and incision lines disappear. This is where camouflage cosmetics come in handy.
Camouflage cosmetics can help you appear on the outside as spectacular as you
feel on the inside.
These cosmetics can also help you to get used to your transformation, especially
if you have had facial plastic surgery. Often when you are in the process of
healing it can be hard to imagine what you will look like once the yellow bruises
and puffiness disappear. Camouflage cosmetics allow you to cover up the swelling
and the discoloration and reveal the true magnificence of your transformation.
In order to fully understand how camouflage cosmetics work it is necessary
to break these products down into categories. There are three forms of camouflage
cosmetics: concealers, contouring products and color-correctors. Concealers
can be used on everything from scarring to bruises and they are designed to
cover up imperfections while blending seamlessly with skin. Contouring products
are used to disguise swollen areas using light and shadow for a natural sculpting
effect, while color-correctors are used to cover up large discolorations like
bruising and redness that can occur after surgery (this particular product is
especially effective for patients who have had microdermabrasion).
Concealers are similar to regular foundation only they tend to be more thick
and opaque in order to provide coverage.
There are two forms of contouring products the highlighter, which should be
a few shades lighter than the concealer you use, and the contouring shadow,
which should be a few shades darker than your concealer.
Color-correctors also come in two forms: lavender-tinted corrector and green-tinted
corrector. Lavender-tinted corrector can be applied to bruised areas to neutralize
yellowing, while green-tinted corrector can be applied to tone down redness.
Camouflage cosmetics are usually hypoallergenic and fragrance-free so there
is little risk of irritating your healing skin.
Before taking advantage of all the benefits that camouflage cosmetics have
to offer be sure that your stitches are out and that your incisions have healed.
Your surgeon will likely be able to let you know when you are able to begin
using these products and he or she may even be able to put you in contact with
someone who can help you perfect application techniques.
