Recovery For BOTOX®

Compared to similar products offered by the cosmetics industry, when considered from the perspective of a risk vs. rewards analysis, BOTOX® is an easy winner.

The benefits of BOTOX® far outweigh the negatives. In terms of recovery, BOTOX®, in contrast to other plastic surgery procedures, is a breeze. In fact, the whole process is truly quick, easy, and virtually painless.

Treatment with BOTOX®, to be completely safe, involves a trip to a licensed medical practitioner. This medical practitioner, commonly a dermatologist, will administer a series of very small injections through tiny needles. The sensation of being injected with these needles is often described as being analogous to an insect bite. In other words, the injections are not particularly painful and are usually tolerable without the need for anesthetic although sometimes a local numbing agent will be used just before the injections. This numbing agent is quite similar to that used by a dentist before freezing the gums.

BOTOX® is injected into the muscles that lie just below the surface of the skin. Often patients report not even being able to feel the injections as only a minute amount of BOTOX® is injected in each place. The doctor will also be careful to isolate only specific muscle groups so that only the appropriate muscles receive treatment. After treatment there may be some tiny red dots visible on the skin or sometimes some minor bruising. Both the dots and bruising fade rapidly, however, and can easily be concealed with make-up.

After receiving treatment with BOTOX® the recovery period is almost non-existent. BOTOX® recovery takes only minutes. In fact, you can return to work immediately after treatment. Strenuous exercise should resume only twenty-four hours after treatment. You should not, however, massage the treated area as this can potentially cause the BOTOX® to spread to unintended areas and muscle groups.

You should also avoid lying down for four to five hours after your procedure. In addition, your physician may recommend that you perform facial exercises that he or she will describe to you. This is to test the extent that the BOTOX® has relaxed your muscles. You should also ask your physician about any recommendations he or she may have regarding changes in your daily skin regimen or complications that may arise through the use of other medicines or drugs in conjunction with BOTOX®.

You should begin to notice results from your BOTOX® treatment only one week after your first injection session. The results from this initial treatment will last anywhere from three to six months before requiring another session. After this time, you will have to return to your physician for more injections if you wish to continue treatment. With each session, however, your require BOTOX® less and less frequently to maintain your desired appearance.
