BOTOX® Injections For Wrinkles
Having been used with great effectiveness in the past to treat neurologic,
speech, and gastrointestinal disorders, BOTOX® injections are more and more commonly
becoming associated with cosmetic usages such as reducing the visibility of
wrinkles and fine lines on various areas of the body such as the around the
eyes, forehead, and neck.
BOTOX® injections for wrinkles are rapidly replacing collagen injections as
the treatment of choice for reducing wrinkles and has taken Hollywood by storm
as everyone from presidential candidate John Kerry to ex Spice Girl Gerry Halliwell
singing its praises. But you don't need to be famous to reap the benefits of
using BOTOX®. Ten times more affordable than plastic surgery, BOTOX® is highly
accessible to the average consumer. No longer will only the rich and famous
have access to smooth, younger looking skin. It can be yours as well.
When considering the regular use of BOTOX®, many people, probably because they've
heard of horror stories associated with plastic surgery, are concerned about
potential side-effects There is no need to fear, however. BOTOX® is completely
clinically tested and safe. It has been granted approval by the American Food
and Drug Administration and has a 15 year spotless track record for treating
everything from excessive perspiration to stuttering.
For reducing wrinkles, botulinum toxin (the scientific name for BOTOX®) is injected
into specific muscles of the face, which results in the temporary relaxation
of those muscles. The muscles, since they are relaxed, cannot contract and wrinkle
the skin overlaying them. The face contains many distinct muscle groups that
the injector can select and target specifically for relaxation. For this reason,
the patient can request to have certain "problem areas" targeted such as the
corners of the eyes or between the eyebrows.
There are various techniques for targeting specific sites on the face. One
of these sites is the brow area. This area below the eyebrows, known as the
glabellar area, can commonly become furrowed and sunken with age. After receiving
BOTOX® injections for wrinkles, however, it tends to become more elevated leading
to a more alert expression and resulting in a more youthful appearance. This
procedure has also been referred to as a chemical brow lift and is one of the
most popular and effective BOTOX® procedures.
Another site of frequent BOTOX® injections is the area between the brows. When
someone is confused, sad, or angry, this is the area that commonly becomes creased
and lined. The problem is, with time, these lines eventually become wrinkles
meaning that they don't just disappear as they once did. Treatment of this area
makes the patient less able to frown and gives the appearance of a more relaxed
and calm face and features. With prolonged treatment, the patient will not only
benefit from smoother skin in this area and the reduction of pre-existing wrinkles,
but also the formation of new wrinkles will be prevented.
Forehead lines begin for many to appear soon after one's 25th birthday and
continue to deepen and spread until the forehead is permanently creased. Much
like the brow area, the forehead, once treated with BOTOX®, regains is past smooth
and unlined quality.
For many, the most unsightly and unpleasant of the facial wrinkles are those
which form at the corners of the eyes and which are commonly called "crow's
feet." These wrinkles, the result of years of squinting and laughing, are the
subject of complaint for men and women alike. BOTOX® has been highly successful
in the reduction of such lines.
Although BOTOX® temporarily relaxes the wrinkle-causing muscles, it does not,
despite misguided beliefs to the contrary, permanently paralyse those muscles.
Rather, the muscles are rendered temporarily inactive and therefore unable to
contract. This does not cause the patient undergoing BOTOX® injections for wrinkles
to lose the ability to form the full range of facial expressions that the patient
was once capable of. It does, however, reduce the harshness of such expressions
so that whereas deep creases would be seen between the brows when one is perplexed,
only a gentle folding of the skin is evident.
With prolonged use of BOTOX®, one will still see some negative effects of aging - there's no stopping time - but these negative effects will be much reduced.
To go along with the adage, "look good, feel good," as the wrinkles fade away
and disappear, one's confidence and self-esteem will improve. More than a few
of the satisfied BOTOX® customers attested to not only looking but also feeling
younger, more energetic, and freer to pursue dreams and activities that seemed
out of reach before.
