Plastic Surgery On Ear Lobes
Ear lobes are an important body feature for women who like to wear earrings.
Unfortunately, sometimes the earlobe can be torn by accident while wearing an
earring. These tears will heal with time, but leave unsightly scars and usually
prevent a woman from wearing any more earrings on that ear. This can be a major
blow to a woman's self-confidence and personal image since the damage is obviously
visible.
There is, however, a method to fix this problem. Plastic surgery on ear lobes
can help to remove signs of trauma and allow a woman to once again don a pair
of earrings. On the whole, an ear lobe reconstruction is a lot easier than a
regular ear plastic surgery involving the entire ear.
The anatomy of a tear is quite simple. The ear lobe is only skin and fat. There's
no hard cartilage to cut through. That's why a lobe can tear so easily. Most
tears are the result of getting caught on something or having a young child
pull on an earring. Earrings with large hoops or big chunky items are more likely
to cause a tear at some point in time. Even small earrings can cause an ear
lobe to tear under the right circumstances.
If the lobe is torn completely through, then the plastic surgery must wait
until the wound has healed. If there's just a tear that doesn't reach the bottom
of the lobe it is still possible to treat it immediately.
There are several methods of ear lobe plastic surgery. Most involve removing
the skin lining the tear and reducing the size of the lobe. The main idea is
to bring the two sides of the lobe together with sutures. Special cuts can be
made to promote healing and reshaping without ugly scars. This is all done under
local anesthetic, and over-the-counter painkillers can counter any pain.
The wound must be washed with soap and water regularly. No dressings are required
besides some antibiotic ointment. The ear lobe will drain over the next week
or so, and the sutures are removed once it's done draining.
Many patients receive a temporary spacer where a new ear piercing can go at
a later date. This allows the patient to wear light jewelry after six weeks,
and heavy jewelry in the ear after two months. Usually it's best to keep using
light jewelry until the full strength of the ear lobe is restored.
Women like to wear earrings, but an ear lob tear can ruin a woman's appearance
by leaving scars and preventing her from wearing jewelry there. There is a variety
of plastic surgery on ear lobes that can help remove the scars and allow a woman
to wear earrings again. Talk to a certified plastic surgeon today to learn more
about an ear lobe reconstruction.
