Liposuction Garments
After a successful liposuction procedure, you will have to wear a liposuction
garment for the first few days or the first week. The reason for a compression
garment is twofold: it helps reduce swelling while providing the area with support
and shaping.
There are varying degrees of tightness to each garment. The current opinion
among doctors is that less is better. Overall, it's more comfortable to wear
a compression garment for the first few days.
A compression garment is essentially like a body suit or leotard. They're usually
a size smaller than what you would normally wear to the gym. Their medical use
beyond a week after the surgery is questionable, so you won't have to wear it
any longer than that unless you feel it is more comfortable.
Since you'll probably be away from work for the first few days anyway, when
the compression garment is most critical, you won't have to worry too much about
the clothes you wear over it.
However, they're just like long underwear so just keep that in mind if you
need to go about. Dark clothes are probably better, along with loose fitting
ones. That's because most compression garments are white.
For women, there are a wide variety of garments to choose from, depending on
the type of surgery undertaken. For the arms, there are compression sleeves.
There are also tops that cover your entire upper body like a tight-fitting exercise
top. For the mid and lower body there are a wide variety of mixed compression
garments that can target the specific areas that you had done. There are full
body garments, mid body garments, lower body garments, and every conceivable
mix between these. Prices for these garments vary between fifty to two hundred
dollars.
For men, the variety is significantly lower. That's because men don't typically
have liposuction in the same areas. Most men's compression garments focus on
the abdomen up to the chest only. Costs for these garments range between thirty
to two hundred dollars.
Compression garments are a necessary part of the recovery process. They're
not uncomfortable or unsightly, and usually look like some form of underwear
that you don't have to be ashamed of.
